TOCOTRIENOL 50 - 60 plant-based capsules

Research on the efficacy of tocotrienols has primarily been conducted on tocotrienols derived from palm oil. Tocotrienols can also be derived from rice starch. The most important conclusions and results of this research can be summarised as follows:

  • A double-blind study conducted on humans by the Kenneth Jordan Heart Foundation in the USA showed that tocotrienols can strongly reduce your chances of both arteriosclerosis and strokes.
  • As opposed to tocopherols, tocotrienols are effective in lowering cholesterol levels. Tocotrienols combat the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase (beta-hydroxy- beta-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A). This enzyme plays an important role in cholesterol synthesis, in which gamma- and delta-tocotrienols are more active than alpha-tocotrienols.
  • A study conducted at the University of California indicated that in combating lipid peroxydation, alpha-tocotrienols are more than 40 to 60 times as effective as an antioxidant than alpha-tocopherols.
  • Delta- and gamma-tocotrienols, in particular, combat in-vitro determined types of cancer cells, with a particular emphasis on breast cancer cells. Research conducted at independent universities worldwide (in the UK: Reading; in the USA: Texas, Louisiana, Washington State; in Canada: West Ontario) has demonstrated that tocotrienols inhibit the proliferation of both oestrogen-positive and oestrogen-negative cancer cells.
  • As opposed to alpha-tocopherol, tocotrienols inhibit the clotting of blood platelets (thrombosis) through the prevention of thromboxane B2 synthesis.
  • Tocotrienols reduce apolipoprotein B (Apo B) and lipoprotein A levels; both of which comprise risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.
  • Animal testing has shown tocotrienols to offer better protection against oxidative damage to the brain than alpha-tocopherol. Tocotrienols appear to have a beneficial effect on countering the ageing of the brain.
  • They are active in combating the Epstein-Barr virus.
  • Other studies have shown that tocotrienols reduce blood sugar levels and protect against liver diseases.
  • Tocotrienols alleviate fatigue in people suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

Laboratory studies have confirmed the extensive mobility of tocotrienols, and additionally their ability to easily pass through biological membranes. Tocotrienols can easily reach places that tocopherols can not, because tocopherols tend to clump together in ‘islands’.

Tocotrienols are also easily absorbed into the skin cells. As a result, they appear to have a key function in the protection against ultraviolet light and ozone. They are also recycled in the body 40 to 60 times more often than tocopherols and are therefore active for longer periods.
